The winter solstice has again snuck upon the Northern Hemisphere, and though the year's shortest day heralds the onset of winter, it also promises the gradual return of the sun after a prolonged period of darkness. This has been a time of gathering and celebration for cultures across the globe, as far back as recorded human history.
Palaver Strings' "Supra Feast" draws inspiration from the feasting traditions of the Republic of Georgia, in which food, drink, toasting, and song are intertwined. We will ward off the cold and dark with musical selections from all over Eastern Europe: works by Bartok, Schulhoff, and Aghabian, klezmer tunes, and, of course, Georgian folk song. Join Palaver for a night of food and drink, music and reflection, in this time of celebration.
