Sing to the Moon

  • Boston Center for the Arts - Black Box Theatre 539 Tremont Street Boston, MA, 02116 (map)

Inspired by Laura Mvula’s song “Sing to the Moon,” this program deals with issues of mental health, both in the musical community and the world at large. As musicians, many of us can relate personally to this theme, having struggled with mental health issues in competitive environments that discourage open discussion. In this program, we will center the works of great composers who likewise struggled, including Sergei Rachmaninoff, Modest Mussorgsky, and Piotr Tchaikovsky. These works will be presented alongside spoken word collaborations and original poetry by members from the Patient/Family Advisory Council at McLean Hospital. In Palaver, we work continually to foster an environment of trust and openness in our own music-making. With this program, we hope to open up conversations and reduce mental health stigmas in the wider community.
