Palaver’s Co-Artistic Directors believe in the power of music education to positively impact people in all stages of life. Throughout the season, Palaver offers workshops in communication and chamber music skills, partnering with organizations such as Bay Chamber Music School (Rockport, ME) the Harmony Project (Los Angeles, CA), San Diego Youth Symphony (San Diego, CA), Santa Clarita Valley Youth Orchestra (Santa Clarita Valley, CA), Heartbeet Lifesharing (Hardwick, VT), El Sistema Somerville (Somerville, MA), and Belmont High School (Belmont, MA).

In 2017, members of Palaver launched a one-year pilot program, the Chamber Music Institute, at Bridge Boston Charter School, in order to provide chamber music experiences for  low income, motivated young musicians. Palaver members certified in Music Learning Theory also offered Early Childhood music classes at Our Place (Cambridge) and Horizons for Homeless Children (Roxbury).

Season 5 marks the launch of several education initiatives in Maine. In November, Palaver led a workshop series focused on ensemble skills and fiddle music with Maine Youth Rock Orchestras, culminating in a side-by-side performance in both Maine and Massachusetts. Palaver also piloted a series of early childhood music classes in Portland, ME, partnering with The Opportunity Alliance, the Bayside and Parkside Head Start programs, and Youth and Family Outreach. These programs laid the groundwork for Palaver’s community music school set to open in fall 2019. This spring, Palaver will launch a 10-week Introduction to Strings class for young children at the Immigrant Welcome Center of Greater Portland.
