Voice in the Crowd explores the relationship between the individual and the group, and our struggle to be heard in a chaotic world. Alongside William Grant Still’s tender Mother and Child and an exuberant Sinfonia by twelve-year-old Felix Mendelssohn, this program features Even, a new composition by composer and former Palaver cellist Ian Gottlieb. Inspired by the concerto grosso tradition and by Palaver’s creative process as a conductorless ensemble, Gottlieb wrote Even specifically for Palaver in its first year as an ensemble. This uniquely challenging work juxtaposes unison passages with richly interwoven solo lines, inviting musicians and audience alike to better understand our capacity for communication.
Bay Chamber Concerts' Screen Door Festival is a five-day musical extravaganza along one of the most scenic coastlines in the world. It features fresh performances by world-renowned musicians, presented in intimate venues, all in a distinctly relaxed summer-in-Maine atmosphere.
