introduction to strings
2024 session
Our Introduction to Strings class allows Pre-K (4-year-old) students to learn the fundamentals of playing violin, viola, or cello in a nurturing, fun environment. Students who complete this program may be invited to continue in our After-School Strings program.
Classes meet Monday or Wednesday afternoons for 15 weeks from January to May, culminating in a Spring Recital. Tuition is based on a sliding scale determined by the student’s household income and ranges from $40 to $400 for the full 15-week session. This year Introduction to Strings offers Preschool or Pre-K students from Portland and surrounding areas the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of playing a string instrument. The program provides high-quality beginning violin, viola, and cello instruction in a private lesson (one on one) setting. For many students, this early training will serve as a foundation for continued string instrument study in Palaver’s After School Strings program.

This program operates on a pay-by-scale model, where household income determines tuition costs. Tuition cost ranges from $40 to $400 for the full 15-week session. To see what tuition amount you qualify for, please review our sliding scale below. Tuition includes all classes and lessons, an instrument, and a case.

We are committed to ensuring that all interested families can participate in our programs, regardless of their financial situation. Students may apply for financial aid to cover tuition balance and/or registration fees.
